Rescue Retrieval Recovery lecture – RRR team

Ilyce entered the smaller marine briefing room and noticed that not only did she have the Marine members but a couple from medical, science, security, operations, fighter pilot, diplomatic, the Colonel's Yeoman and even the ship's chef. It was a very good start.

“Thank you for coming. Rescue Retrieval and Recovery is a new team that the UfoP is trialing, because it is used with great success on Pacific Ocean, and that is where I qualified my medical and other qualifications, including RRR, this vessel got the new group. Where did the idea originally come from? The Australian military on Earth. They are still operating, and are called the Voodoo Medics. They are an elite group of military men, who call themselves the Voodoo Medics. Charged with treating the Australian Special Forces solidiers injured in combat, the medics are a rare breed, trained fighters whose first job is to save lives. According to a Victoria Cross recipient, 'They're the ones we kind of love the most when we need them but the ones we don't always think about when we don't need them.”

“Within Australia's Special Operations Command they're known as Voodoo Medics and less then two dozen fill this prestigious role at any one time. According to the Victoria Cross recipient, 'They're there to save our lives. There are not many other jobs like them in the military that are so critical when that time comes. It wasn't unusual for a Kilo to carry a mortar. You've got this guy whose job it is to save the lives of the men he's with and at the same time he's carrying a weapon of destruction that we're going to use against the enemy. It's an incredible role when you think of it.”

“Kilo, the callsign for one of the Voodoo Medics, says 'The medics are expected to meet the same standards as the units with which they serve, though they do not undergo the same gruelling selection process. A vein of dark humour runs through the Voodoo Medics. The Voodoo Medics motto is a promise to their Special Forces team mates. “We'll do the voodoo so you can do what you do.”

“One of the kilo says A kilo is to be an asset not a liability to the elite fighters with whom they deploy. Just be good at your job. Don't be lazy. Don't be jack, as they say. Your job it to make sure that everyone comes home alive. Sometimes it doesn't happen. Special Forces Medics complete eighteen months of initial training before undergoing intensive tactical medicine training. When they are posted to special forces, their skills are turbocharged with training in advanced surgical procedures and pharmacology. They also train to perform land, water and air rescues in battlefield conditions. By the time they are done they are like a paramedic and a General Practioner rolled into one.” Ilyce glanced around the room.

“Rescue Retreival and Recovery is based on the Voodoo Medics. You could be assigned to accompany an away team. Or you'll be assigned to the RRR unit and you'll be doing Rescue jobs, that's Rescuing people. Retrieval, bringing back objects, equipment, weapons, and anything that Starfleet or the UfoP request, and finally Recovery. Bringing back our dead, locating trapped bodies, or objects that are not visible or are missing.” Ilyce stated. “Unlike the Voodoo Medics, some of you will accompany our away teams, in other missions, Marines or Security will accompany us. We will be training in the holodeck in various situations and undergo lectures in the Marine Briefing Centre. You will undertake your first Holodeck session in fourty Eight hours depending on situations that come to light onboard and announced by the Colonel.”

“Exactly what happens when we're called upon to act?” Boatswain Rwanda asked
“I'd like to know will we be only working in space?” Chef Powell asked
“I take it we will be receiving a variety of lectures and training?” Ensign Dalton Green from Security asked.

“We will act, in accordance to the Colonies instructions.” Ilyce answered Rwanda. “No Chef Powell, we will be working in whatever environmental conditions arise. Yes Ensign Green.” Ilyce answered. “You will attend holodeck four in fourty eight hours, where we will start. Dismissed.” Ilyce stated.
