[Engineering]
After a short ride and walk down the corridor Alex entered Engineering "Commander T'urok" Alex called out in a low tone as she was entering engineering, as she entered she passed a Second Lieutenant "hello El-tee" said to the officer close to her.
Second Lieutenant Ilyce Savage had chewed things over, before deciding it was to the ships benefit that she alert the CEO of what she found. She'd entered engineering and stood to wait for the CEO who was in the middle of discussing matters with one of his engineers. She was actually very glad to see the ship's Executive Officer. "Second Lieutenant Ilyce Savage, Sir." She lowered her voice and continued hoping that the Major was here in connection to her findings.
"Your Chief Engineer is looking in the wrong place, whoever made modifications to her used power transfer nodes which belonged to a larger vessel and they aren't compatible with this size vessel." He could see Ilyce at a power transfer panel pulling the incompatible pieces out and reconnecting the feeders with the appropriately sized pieces. "You're getting overloads each time the power tries to cross through one of the larger sections." She held out both of the findings, one small and the other four times its size.
Hearing his name, T'urok stepped around the corner of his office, PADD in hand, "Here Commander", he said. oO Now is not the time for inspections Oo. Walking up to her, "How can I help you?", he added.
"CEO T'urok, I am Second Lieutenant Ilyce Savage, one of my qualifications is WDDCE. Wet Dry Damage Control Engineering. The lower decks are in darkness. The ship has two power transfer nodes." She made sure he could see both. "You're getting overloads each time the power tries to cross through one of the larger sections." She held out both of the findings, one small and the other four times its size. I hope you have no problems with my interference, but I believe because of this problem we are heading for a total blackout on all levels and a cascade failure across the board." Her tone was polite more Betazoid then Vulcan."
*looking directly at the woman* "Excuse me???? While I recognize the qualifications, you what?!?!", he said, *now looking at the XO* "Commander, while I do welcome opinions but, isn't this a bit over the head?", he added. *now looking back to the Lt* "So you're telling me that the power nodes are not up to specs? ", he said through clenched teeth trying to control his temper. oO T'urok temper, temper, it is quite possible she just might have a handle on this mess Oo
This was exactly why she didn't tread on other people's departments. "Chief Engineer T'urok. Since I am Chief Instructor for the marine unit, and our deck and those below are in the dark," She easily picked up his thoughts. *I don't take my orders from you T'urok. I can handle whatever you want to throw at me, and more.* She went telepathic. *But you should consider if you can handle what is thrown back at you. As far as continuing this conversation, you can be assured I won't be offering you or engineering any further assistance. And unless the MCO wants your engineers on our decks, consider yourself not welcome. We will repair whatever we need to repair ourselves.* Ilyce turned to the Major.
"The ships CEO has indicated telepathically that he does not believe what he has been told and has threatened me. Therefore I have indicated we the marines will repair whatever needs repairing ourselves, we are equipped with several engineers. I have also indicated he will not get any further assistance from this Vulcan cross Betazoid again."
"Lieutenant Savage, it is a well-documented thing that we Marines have an Alpha type personality, this is due to the training we go through, but while you are serving aboard this ship as an Engineer, you will obey the directives of the Chief Engineer, am I understood Lieutenant?" Somers asked in a stern tine, not liking the young officers attitude "If you were in my unit back before I came to the Powell and behaved like this I would have kicked you around, but on a ship we all have to learn to adjust our thinking and ways as there will be Fleet officers and crew we have to deal with" Somers paused.
*Like bloody hell Vulcan, you started this battle. Remember that.* Ilyce directed her comments telepathically, cutting the Major out just in case she was telepathic. "Sir," She verbalised to the Major.
*In a Softer tone and with a smile* "Glad you understand, now get to your repairs tasks and remember if you find something you cannot fix or are unsure or do not be afraid to ask for help" she finished.
*Not from the ass.* Ilyce telepathically directed her comments to T'urok. *This isn't over. Engineering is somewhere I'll never place a foot in again.* "Sir." Her Vulcan side was definitely in play and she wanted to hurl the bloody Vulcan against the wall. But she didn't. "I, therefore, leave you to either dismiss what I previously stated or continue to deal with him. Sir." Ilyce headed for the door, just as the lights went out. "Should you wish to discuss anything, you know where I'll be Major." Ilyce disappeared into the dark corridor, finding the nearest JT access point and using it to access the ladder and after closing the access vent she began to climb towards her area.
*Looks back at the departing engineer then turns her attention to the CEO* "Commander T'urok I am Major Alexandria Somers First Officer, and I am here to make sure everything is on schedule where the repairs are concerned, so if you could please report, in layman's terms on what is going on, and how far the repairs along are and how bad any damaged systems are?" Somers asked.
oO How dare she comes into my engine room and thinks she knows what the hell is going on Oo Still grumbling, "Major I have my hands full trying to nail this disaster down. We had thought to get the same sized power nodes but they just don't seem practical. I am going to st.....", *the lights in engineering just lit up signalling that there was power* "Finally.......what was the problem?", she asked Ens Millner.
Millner looked just as perplexed as T'urok. "Haven't got a clue boss...maybe it wasn't the pumps. It might have been the matter/anti-matter injector ports that needed to be swapped. Could it just that simple?", Millner said.
*Arsehole, anyone with little engineering knowledge could tell what was wrong. If you think You got it all, you haven't, the entire ship is a mish-mash of different pieces, open panel 34 in the Colonel's Office, and then tell me you've got it all under control.* Ilyce's voice echoed in T'urok's mind. *If you're not willing to take a look, and something fails during combat. Then it's on your head.* Ilyce kept climbing down the JT's coming out at the lowest level.
She looked at the CEO "I am mainly here to make sure all is well and if you need anything and I am more forgiving than the colonel is" she said with a smile to show she made a joking comment at the end. "In all seriousness Chief, what is going wrong on this ship?" Somers asked.
oO You p'tagh of a know it all female, come back to engineering and say it! Oo Now he was madder than a wet targh that this woman's thought echoed in his mind. "Sorry Major but to coin a humans phrase, I think that the Powell was put back together with hay and baling wire. She is a mess of pieces that really don't belong where they are. Even the diagnostics can't pin down the errors. Maybe if I had what they changed and where maybe then I could get a handle on it. EPS taps are out of sync and some don't even belong on the Akira class. I got ODN conduit junction boxes that belong on Galaxy class and not to mention that the plasma manifolds don't match with the power converters that are established for this class. So much of it is just wrong. If we do go into a firefight, in the current condition we are...we would lose the ship.", T'urok said as his face said it all.
*She then speaks in fluent Klingonese* "Commander T'urok I know you probably hate me at this moment, I can tell I have annoyed you to some degree, I grew up with Klingon's even trained with them when I was a teenager, my father is one of the Diplomats to the Klingon Empire, I know you see me as an intruder, but I am the ships First Officer and as such I do my duty" she said then switched back to basic.
"I am merely here to get a report, check on things and find out how long it will take to fix, I am not here to tell you how to do your job, I am a Soldier I am used to commanding men and women in battle, but now I am a ships First Officer so I am bound to screw up. *long pause*
"I respect you Commander for your restraint and your civility, you do your department proud, but I still need to know eta on repairs and such. Hey and baling wire you say! Hmm... Not surprising, this ship was thought lost in action and as such does not technically exist, but there are some correct parts for this ship in cargo bay one, all for you to use" Somers said and fell silent.
Looking more surprised than shock, T'urok stepped back. *now speaking in Klingonease* "Major, I neither hate or am I intimidated by you. As a matter of record, my Houses honour is well known and I am familiar with your own accomplishments in the Empire. I am honoured that you have not forgotten your poise. Maybe we do have common ground that can be advantageous to our working together."
"Major, had I been told about the contents in cargo bay one, this disaster could have been avoided in the first place. Does Starfleet think I am incompetent or worse than that if they feel I can't be trusted in my job?", he said frowning. T'urok was not hurt or angry with the Major only wondering why he had not been told before they left the station.
"Lack of communication is a pain I know and apologies on that, but with the secrecy of our mission, they probably hoped you would do a visual inspection of the supplies before we left dock, but now you know the supplies are there, what is the ETA on repairs, enough to make the engines and shields work without fail?" Somers asked.
"With all this help *pauses*", looking at the sea of marines around him, "about one hour XO", he said slowly not believing his own estimated repair time.
*Smiling* "You have no more than two-hours, now you have parts, I think you will do well, remember there are a limited number of spares in the Cargo hold, so when you have used some, do a stock take of what is left for future information okay?" Somers asked.
"Understood Commander. I will take inventory and make the list of what is left", T'urok said.
"Excellent" *places hand on the shoulder in a Klingon gesture* "Come you by my quarters later Commander and we will share some Bloodwine and Gagh and speak of past battles we both took part in, the ones I can talk about that is" Somers said "I brought a few barrels of Bloodwine and Gagh, the vintage of the bloodwine is 2340 and I can hold my bloodwine an impressive feat for a human" she added.
"Very good and I will bring the 2238 bottle I have saved for our celebration", he added.
Looking at him aghast "no, no, no keep that for a really special occasion" Somers said removing her hand from his shoulder and smiling "well I will leave you with your task of repairing this ship" she said as she made to go.
Looking, "Well then sir, I will save that for your day of honour", he said, bringing his fist to his chest saluting the Major just before she turned to leave.
Alex stopped by the door and turned smartly and stood straight and brought her fist to her chest in a warrior salute "until then Commander, do what you must to fix this ship" Alex said and left the Engineer to do his work.
